Vassallo Nets the "Sock-Trick" as Griffins Defeat Warriors for First CACC Win of the Season

Frances Vassallo recorded  a "sock-trick" with six goals as the Chestnut Hill College Women's Lacrosse team won their first conference gamer of the season, defeating Nyack College 18-2  Saturday afternoon at Victory Field #1 in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania.

The Griffins improve to 2-9 overall and 1-5 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action  while the Warriors fall to 0-8 overall and 0-6 in league play..
Vassallo (Hicksville, N.Y.) scored twice in the first and fourth quarters and had one goal in the second and third quarter to complete the six-goal effort, the second time this season she has scored six or more goals in a game.  The junior attack also assisted on three goals to finish the game with nine points.

Vassallo's sister Danielle finished the game with four goals while Madyson Schwartz (Philadelphia, Pa.) added three.

Danielle Vassallo (Hicksville, N.Y.) led the team with seven ground balls, six caused turnovers and winning ten draw controls.  Ashley Watson (Bristol, Conn.) had five ground balls and Molly Killion (Philadelphia, Pa.) added four and also had four caused turnovers.

Mel Amador (Cape May, N.J.) picked up the win in goal while the Griffins defense limited the Warriors to just five totals shots.  Amador had two saves.

Danielle Vassallo started the scoring off with an unassisted goal just 1:36 into the game.   Schwartz took a pass from Frances Vassallo at the 12:03 mark to make the score 2-0.  Frances Vassallo scored the final two goals of the period to give the Griffins a 4-0 lead after one.

Schwartz had her second goal of the game early in the second period and Ashley Watson gave the Griffins a 6-0 lead with a goal assisted by Rexney Thenor (Burlington, N.J.)  at the 13:02 mark before Nyack got on the board some 90 seconds later.

Chestnut Hill responded with four unanswered goals by four different players to open up a 10-1 lead.  Watson had her second of the game at the 7:12 mark while Danielle Vassallo added her second goal of the game with 6:29 left in the quarter.  Elizabeth Bennett (Swedesboro, N.J.) scored the first of her two goals with 4:01 left and Frances Vassallo notched her third goal of the game with 1:56 left, giving the Griffins a 10-1 lead.

Nyack's Lena Mau bounced a shot into the net with 49 seconds left in the quarter to make the score 10-2.

The Vassallo sisters each scored once and Bennett added her second goal of the game to push the lead to 13-2 in the third quarter as the Griffins outshot the Warriors 10-1 in the period.  

Chestnut Hill had 12 shots in the fourth quarter, scoring five times. Schwartz started the scoring off just 80 seconds into the final period with her third goal of the game.  Killion followed with her first goal of the season at the 8:18 mark.  Frances Vassallo scored her fifth and sixth goals of the game at 7:56 and 4:53 respectively. Danielle Vassallo rounded out the scoring with her fourth goal with 33 seconds left.

For the game the Griffins outshot the Warriors 36-4 on goal and 52-5 overall and won 15 of 23 draw controls. Chestnut Hill committed just nine turnovers (three forced) while forcing 18 (of 25 total) by Nyack. The Griffins also held a 34-7 advantage in ground balls.

The Griffins return to action on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 when they host Holy Family University in their final home game of the season at Victory Field.  First draw is set for 7:00 p.m.
