The Chestnut Hill College baseball team will find themselves on the outside looking in at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship Tournament for the first time since the 2012 season as they dropped their final two conference games of the 2022 season at Jefferson University 11-10 and 21-7.
The Griffins finish 11-13 in CACC games, placing fourth in the CACC south division  Chestnut Hill is 20-23 overall.  Jefferson is 15-9 in league play and 24-19 overall.
The Rams battled back from deficits of 5-0 and 9-4 in the opener to win 11-10 on Josh Lopez's walkoff home run leading off the ninth inning. The Rams scored 14 runs in the first four innings of game two as they cruised to the 21-7 victory to complete the sweep.
Billy Bethel took the loss in game pitching one inning plus one batter.Â
Marlon Rose took the loss in game two facing six batters and getting one out while allowing five runs.
Doubles from
Sam Barletta and
Ian Labrador produced the Griffins' first two runs in the opener.
R.J. Huth followed Labrador with a single scoring the freshman outfielder with the Griffins' third run.
A two-run double by Barletta in the third gave the Griffins a 5-0 lead . Arturo Figueroa's three run home in the bottom of the third cut the Griffin's lead to 5-3.
John Contoudis made the score 6-3 with a double in the fourth and the Griffins added two runs on sacrifice flies by
Corbin Dunnuck and Labrador in the fifth to lead 8-3. A throwing error by Lopez led to the Griffin's ninth run and a 9-4 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth.
Home runs by the Rams in the sixth and seventh inning led to six runs and a 10-9 lead. The Griffins tied the game in the ninth as
Connor Evans singled, stole second and scored on a pair of errors. Then in the bottom of the ninth, Lopez hit his second home run of the game to win it 11-10.
Chestnut Hill again jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings, courtesy of a Contoudis three-run home run only to have the Rams tie the game in the bottom of the second as a home run by Ryan Sawyer, the first of three he hit in the game highlighted a five run inning.
The Rams blew the game open with six runs in the third inning, four courtesy of a grand slam home run by Sawyer, giving the Rams an 11-5 lead. Jefferson continued to add runs as the game progressed finishing off with five more runs in the sixth inning to make the final score 21-7.
The Chestnut Hill College Baseball team will close out their season on Tuesday with a game against Kutztown University. First pitch is at 6:00 p.m. at Hostelley Field in North Wales, Pennsylvania.
