The Chestnut Hill College women's volleyball team opened conference play as they dropped a 3-0 match to Jefferson University in the Griffins' home opener at Sorgenti Arena Wednesday night.
The Griffins fall to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in league play while Jefferson improves to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in CACC matches.Â
Jefferson battled to win the first set 27-25 and went on to complete the sweep, defeating the Griffins 25-18 and 25-16 in the final two sets.
Henielys Ramos (Trujillo Alto, P.R.) led the Griffins with ten kills, including the 500
th of her career.Â
Mikayla Grimes (Fresno, Calif.)Â and
Erika Dubosky (Summit Hill, Pa.) added seven kills apiece.Â
Mia Caporellie (Downingtown, Pa.) recorded 27 assists setting up the Griffins' offense while Grimes led the team with seven digs.Â
Angela April (Ridley, Pa.) and Grimes each recorded two blocks while
Torrin Kelley (Hanover, Pa.) had two aces.
Ramos entered the game needing four kills to reach 500 for her career and reached the milestone with her first kill in the second set, going on to add six more to give her 506 for her career.
Grimes and Dubosky had four kills apiece in the first set with just one error as the Griffins built a 14-8 lead but saw the Rams battle back, tying the game with five straight points at 21-21 and later taking their first lead of the set at 24-23 before pulling out the two-point win 27-25.
The Griffins again led for much of the second set before Jefferson came back and took a 13-12 lead. A Jefferson service error tied the game at 13-13 before the Rams closed out the set on a 12-5 spurt to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
The Rams jumped out ot an early 5-1 lead and led the entire third set as the completed the sweep winning the final set 25-16.
The Chestnut Hill women's volleyball team is back in action on Friday and Saturday, September 2-3, 2022 as they take part in the Marauder Clash at Millersville university. Chestnut Hill will face Frostburg State University and host Millersville on Friday and Fairmont State University and West Chester University on Saturday
