Facing some of the toughest competition of the 2022-23 season to date, the Chestnut Hill College Women's bowling team played their first five matches at the Northeast Classic at Bowlero in Deptford, New Jersey on Friday. The Griffins faced four nationally ranked teams on the day and went 0-5 in the day's matches, all Baker format contests.
The Griffins opened the competition against #11 Maryville University of St. Louis. Maryville earned a 965-894 win in the match. Freshman
Kayleina McGonigal filled all ten frames for the Griffins while senior
Maddie Gannon filled nine.
Gannon filled all ten frames in the team's next match, a close 822-791 loss to New Jersey City University.
In CHC's third match, the Griffins faced #23 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, falling to the Warhawks, 947-870. Gannon and freshman
Maddy Feldschneider each filled eight of ten frames in the contest.
2021 NCAA Bowling National Champion University of Nebraska was up next. The #4-ranked Cornhuskers dominated the match and won with a score of 953-790. Gannon filled eight of ten frames while sophomore
Eryn Moore filled seven.
In the Griffins final match of the day, they faced 2022 national runner-up Stephen F. Austin State. The Lumberacks, ranked #5 in the most recent NTCA poll, beat the Griffins 1090-795. McGonigal filled nine of ten frames while Gannon and Moore filled seven apiece.
Two more ranked teams await the Griffins on Saturday as the traditional match portion of the tournament gets under way, including defending national champion and top-ranked McKendree University.
