Twelve different players scored as the Chestnut Hill college women's basketball team held off a late charge from Caldwell University to earn their third straight win, defeating the Cougars 61-55 Saturday afternoon at Sorgenti Arena.
The Griffins, now winners in eight of their last nine contests, improve to 13-7 overall and 8-3 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. The Cougars fell to 10-10 overall and 6-6 in league play.

Leah Miller was the lone player out of the 12 scorers who reached double figures, quietly scoring ten points in just 14 minutes of action. The graduate forward was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line and also had four rebounds, a block and a steal.Â

Lauren Crim, Emily Chmiel and
Bri Rider added eight points apiece. Crim and Rider each made a pair of three point buckets and a pair of free throws while Chmiel was 3-5 from the field and 2-for-2 from the charity stripe. Chmiel also led the team with five rebounds. Including Chmiel and Miller, ten different Chestnut Hill players grabbed at least three rebounds apiece. Â

Avery White dished out a game-high six assists while scoring five points.Â
Abbey Spratt and
Bri Hewlett also had five points apiece.

The Griffins produced a 10-4 run over the final 5:53 of the game to break a 51-51 tie and secure the win. Chestnut Hill started the run with six straight points, two free throws from Chmiel and a pair of layups from Miller. The Griffins took to the free throw line for their final four points as Rider and Spratt hit one apiece and Crim sealed the win with a pair of free throws with eight seconds left.

Chestnut Hill took control of the game after the Cougars jumped out to a 7-2 lead. The Griffins countered with an 11-2 spurt to take their first lead of the game at 13-9 late in the first quarter. A three-point basket just past the midway mark in the second quarter expanded the CHC lead to ten 28-18.

Caldwell cut the deficit to eight 32-24 at halftime and pulled within four 45-41 as the two teams headed into the final quarter. The Cougars had the momentum as the fourth quarter began, forging the 51-51 tie with 5:53 left before the Griffins began their final run towards victory.

Casey O'Shaughnessy led the Cougars with 15 points (nine of which came in the third quarter with the Griffins limiting the CACC's leading scorer to just two points in each of the other three periods). O'Shaughnessy also had a team high three assists.  Halle Brown led the team with eight rebounds

 For the game the Griffins shot 37.5% (21-56) from the field and 70% (14-20) from the free throw line. Caldwell shot 32.8% (20-61) from the field and 66.7% (8-12) from the free throw line. The Griffins outrebounded the Cougars 42-38 and the CHC bench outscored Caldwell's 47-13.

The women's basketball team returns to action on Tuesday, January 31, 2022 when they travel to face Wilmington University in New Castle, Delaware. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
