Meirovich Guides Griffins to a 5-2 Win over Lightning

Romi Meirovich led a trio of Chestnut Hill college women's tennis players that won both matches Wednesday afternoon as the Griffins edged closer to clinching a playoff spot in the upcoming Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship Tournament with a 5-2 win over Goldey-Beacom College at the CHC Tennis Courts.

The Griffins improve to 7-3 overall and 5-2 in CACC matches.  The Lightning fall to 2-7 overall and 1-7 in league play.  Mathematically, the Griffins need either one win or a Dominican University loss to clinch a playoff spot for the fifth consecutive season.

Meirovich teamed with Lilian Bandel at the #1 doubles position, winning six straight games after trailing 4-0 in the match to secure the doubles point for Chestnut Hill with a 6-4 win.  Annika Wise and Elena Arenas Guisasola also won their doubles match, earning a 6-0 win at #3 doubles.

Leading 1-0 and beginning singles play, Meirovich turned in a dominant performance at #5 singles, defeating Elina Mukhamadeeva 6-1, 6-0 to push the Griffins lead to 2-0.  The win raised her overall singles record to 9-2 for the season.

The Lightning came right back to tie the match at 2-2 with wins at #1 and #2 singles before Nele Haag put the Griffins back on top with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Macy Hendin-Walker at #3 singles.

Arenas Guisasola then clinched the match for the Griffins with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Asli Kunduk at #6 singles, for her second win of the day and a 4-2 CHC lead.  Wise rounded out the Griffins' winners with a 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6) win over Nahomi Quinonez at #4 singles.  It was also Wise's second win of the day as she improved to 9-1 in singles competition on the season.

The Chestnut Hill College Women's Tennis team returns to action on Friday, October 13, 2023, when they host Wilmington University.  The game has been designated Senior day for the Griffins and first serve will begin at 2:00 p.m.
