Griffins Defeat Lightning to Get Back on Winning Track

The Chestnut Hill College Women's Volleyball team got back on the winning track, snapping a three-game losing streak with as 3-1 win over Goldey-Beacom college Tuesday night at Sorgenti Arena.

The Griffins improve to 7-11 overall and 6-3 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games.  The Lightning drop to 0-13 overall and 0-10 in league play.

Erika Dubosky recorded another double-double with a game-high 15 kills and 18 digs.  Rachel Mace added 11 kills and 14 digs. Pamela Uceta and Angela April had eight and seven kills respectively..

Setting the offense for the Griffins was Mia Caporellie who recorded 45 assists while adding 12 digs on defense.   Mace led all players with three service aces with Caporellie, Uceta, Chloe Mettille and Natalie Albin adding two apiece.  Albin also reached double figures in digs with ten on the night.

The Griffins jumped out to a 10-1 lead in the opening set as Dubosky and Cha'kya Johnson had two kills apiece during the early run.  Chestnut Hill expanded their lead to 16-2 and 20-5 before splitting the next ten rallies with the Lightning en route to a 25-10 win.

The Lightning used a 10-3 run to break a 7-7 tie in the second set and take their biggest at any point in the match, 17-10.  The Lightning still led 21-14 when the Griffins ran off ten straight points (Uceta -  three kills, April - two kills and Caporellie -  two aces) taking a 24-21 lead.  GBC followed with five straight points to win the set 26-24, marking only the second set the Lightning had won all season.

Chestnut Hill jumped out to an early lead in the third set and opened a 14-8 lead after an Uceta kill and later expanded it to 20-13 following Albin's service ace.    The Lightning closed the gap to 21-16 before the Griffins closed out the set with a 4-1 run, winning 25-17.

In the fourth set, the Griffins recorded 14 kills in just 24 attacks (four errors, .417 attack%) as they cruised to a 25-11 win to clinch the match.

The women's volleyball team returns to action on Thursday, October 19, 2023, when they travel to face Wilmington University.  Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
