The Chestnut Hill College Women's Tennis team gave its all in Friday's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference semi-final match, as they battled to the finish before falling to Jefferson University 4-3 at the Delcastle Tennis Center in Wilmington, Delaware.
The Griffins finish the fall season with a 9-5 record. Jefferson is now 13-4 and advances to the championship match tomorrow.
Jefferson got on the scoreboard first, taking two of the three doubles matches to secure the doubles point. Chestnut Hill's lone win was at #3 doubles with
Annika Wise and
Elena Arenas Guisasola defeating Rose Huang and Emily Frost 6-0.
Romi Meirovich cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at #5 singles over Huang to even the match at 1-1. The Rams followed with a win at #1 singles to lead 2-1
Alison Isaac evened the match with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Nicole Hrbkova.
Arenas Guisasola put the Griffins ahead 3-2 with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Zenai Barretto at #6 singles before Wise had to retire in her #4 singles match following an injury during the contest.
The match was tied at 3-3 and came down to the #3 singles contest.Â
Nele Haag and Jefferson's Charlie Egger split the first two sets with Haag winning the first set 6-1 and Egger eking out a 7-6 (7-3) win in the second set. Egger went on to win the third set 6-2 and the match 1-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 to give the Rams the win and a berth into the championship match.
The loss ends the fall season for the Griffins. Three spring matches are currently scheduled for the women's tennis team.
