Griffins Win Streak Snapped by Purple Knights

The Chestnut Hill College Women's Volleyball team had their three match winning streak snapped as Central Atlantic Collegiate conference north division leader University of Bridgeport completed a 3-0 sweep of the Griffins at Hubbell Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.

The Griffins fall to 6-9 overall and 5-2 in CACC games.  Bridgeport remains undefeated in conference play at 7-0 and has a 14-3 overall record.

Bridgeport took the first set 25-22, leading wire-to-wire and again led wire-to-wire in the second set, winning 25-18.  The third set saw 17 ties and seven lead changes before the Purple Knights pulled ahead to win 26-24 to complete the three-set sweep.

Rachel Mace led the Griffins with 13 kills on the afternoon and recorded a team high attack percentage of .226 (13-6-31).   Erika Dubosky added eight kills while Maya Hopson and Pamela Uceta had four kills apiece.  Mace also had four service aces while Chloe Mettille added two. 

Mia Caporellie recorded 27 assists setting the Griffins offense.  The redshirt junior setter also notched her third consecutive double -double and eight on the season, adding ten digs to her stat sheet.

On the defensive side, Dubosky led all players with 12 digs.   Mace and Hopson had three blocks apiece.

Comparing numbers for both teams, the Purple Knights recorded 39 kills to the Griffins 33 and hit .222 (39-17-99) to CHC's .132 (33-19-106).  Chestnut Hill served one more ace than Bridgeport (8-7) while the Purple Knights held a 42-38 advantage in digs and a 10-4 margin in team blocks.

Hailey Jessen led the Purple Knights with 14 kills. Madison Jongsma had 6 blocks and Paola Hernandez recorded ten digs.

The Chestnut Hill College Women's Volleyball team returns to action on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, when they travel to face West Chester University.  This match was originally scheduled for September 1 but was postponed.  Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
