The Chestnut Hill College Women's Bowling team turned in another solid performance on the second day of the Central Atlantic collegiate conference (CACC) Invitational on Sunday. The Griffins repeated Saturday's 4-1 effort with another 4-1 mark in Sunday's Baker format competition.
Sunday's record gives the Griffins an 8-2 mark in conference play to start the season, tying the team with Caldwell University for first place in the league standings. Conference matches will resume in March at Bowlerama in Wilmington, Delaware with the Wilmington University Wildcats serving as hosts.
Wilmington was the Griffins' first opponent of the day. Like Chestnut Hill, the Wildcats entered the day tied for first with a 4-1 record. The Griffins received strong performances from
Kayleina McGonigal and
Abigail Crumb as they defeated the Wildcats 871-828. McGonigal filled all ten frames bowled while Crumb filled nine of ten.
Caldwell was up next for the Griffins. The Cougars likewise were 4-1 after the first day. The Griffins trailed by 11 after the first four baker games of the match but rolled their highest game of the day with a score of 199 in game five to earn an 833-831 win over the Cougars. McGonigal again led the team, filling nine of ten frames.
The Griffins recorded their third straight win of the day and seventh in a row over the two-days of competition, defeating Bloomfield College 851-691.
Eryn Moore led the way for the Griffins, filling nine of ten frames while McGonigal filled eight of ten.
Felician University halted the Griffins win streak, handing Chestnut Hill their only loss of the day 839-800.
Jessica Hollabaugh and Moore each filled nine of ten frames.
Moore was a perfect 8-for-8 in filled frames as the Griffins won their final match of the day, defeating Holy Family University 802-498.
Moore finished the day filling 81.2% of her frames (39 of 48). McGonigal filled 77.1% (37 of 48). As a team the Griffins filled a season-high 73.6% of their frames on Sunday.
The women's bowling team returns to action in January for the Northeast Invitational on January 19-21.
