The Chestnut Hill college Men's Basketball team placed three players in double figures as they dropped a non-conference contest against nationally ranked West Liberty State University in West Liberty, West Virginia Wednesday night.

The Griffins fall to 0-3 while the Hilltoppers, ranked #1 in the country in the recently released D2CSC Division II Men's Basketball Media Poll improve to 3-0.

Alejandro Redondo Cybak recorded a double-double with a game-high 16 points and ten rebounds.  Adam Angwafo and Argel Pettit IV added 11 points apiece.  Pettit also led the team with three assists.  Neal Hill had four steals.

The Hilltoppers placed five players in double figures led by Christian Montague's 13 points.  Alek West added 12 points.  Montague and West also dished out five assists apiece.   Ben Sarson led the team with seven rebounds.

West Liberty, known for their high powered offense had averaged 111 points/game in their first two contests as the Griffins held the team to 25 points below that average.  The Hilltopper defense however, held the Griffins to just 31.1% shooting from the field and forced 23 turnovers, leading to 21 points for the victors.

The game started off with the Griffins jumping out to an early 9-3 lead just 4:20 into the contest.  Over the next four minutes the Hilltoppers went on a 13-0 run to take a 16-9 lead. Pettit's three-point basket with 10:47 left closed the gap to four before West Liberty added eight straight points to increase their lead to double digits, 24-12.  Angwafo's layup with 1:11 left in the half cut the deficit to single digits.  West Liberty closed the half on a 6-2 run to lead 37-24 at the break.

West Liberty started the second half with a 9-2 run to lead 46-26.  The Griffins never got any closer than 14 points the rest of the way following a Cybak free throw at the 15:09 mark.  The Hilltoppers increased their lead as the half wore on, enroute to their largest lead of 28 which was the difference at the final buzzer.

The men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, November 18, 2023 when they travel to Millersville University. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
