A well balanced attack led to a fifth straight win for the Chestnut Hill college women's volleyball team Saturday afternoon as the defeated Post University 3-0 at the Drubner Center in Waterbury, Connecticut.
The Griffins improve to 10-4 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games and 12-12 overall. The Eagles drop to 6-9 in league play and 6-23 overall. Chestnut Hill's five match win streak is their longest since the 2019 season.
Chestnut Hill cruised to a 25-12 win I the first set and won the next two sets 25-19 and 25-19 to complete the three-set sweep.
Erika Dubosky led three Griffin players with double figure kills with 12 on the afternoon. Dubosky had just one attack error and finished the match hitting .314 (12-1-35).Â
Angela April also had just one error on attack along with 11 kills, hitting .435 (11-1-23).Â
Rachel Mace had 11 kills, hitting .259 (11-4-27).Â
Maya Hopson had eight kills and zero attack errors to hit .615 (8-0-13).
Mia Caporellie continued her solid play setting the Chestnut Hill offense, recording 38 assists on the afternoon. Dubosky led the team with two service aces.
On the defensive side,
Natalie Albin led all players with 22 digs while Mace added 17 to record her fourth straight double-double and 15
th of the season. April had four blocks on the afternoon while Mace added two.
April had two kills early in the first set as the griffins took advantage of several attack errors by the Eagles to jump out to a 7-2 lead. An ace from Mace and a kill from Caporellie increased CHC's lead to 13-5 midway through the match. The Griffins continued to hold the lead, increasing to 20-11 late in the set before closing out the stanza with four of the next five points via kills from four different players to win 25-12.
The Eagles jumped out to an early 6-3 lead in the second set, extending it to 14-9 before the Griffins rallied with six straight points to take a 15-14 lead. Two kills from April and one each from
Cha'kya Johnson and Dubosky fueled the rally. Post tied the game at 16-16 but would never regain their early momentum as the Griffins closed out the set with a 9-3 spurt for the 25-19 win.
A 9-3 run to open the third set put the griffins in a solid position to complete the sweep. Post closed within four 11-7 before a 6-1 run by the Griffins extended the lead to nine 17-8. The Eagles rallied to close within five 19-14 before a kill from Hopson swung the momentum back the Griffins' way. Dubosky's kill late in the match made the score 24-19 and the junior hitter then served a ball that landed just inside the endline untouched for an ace to give the Griffins a 3-0 sweep with a 25-19 win in the set.
Haley Brandt led Post with eight kills while Alyssa Groves had 15 digs.
The women's volleyball team returns to action on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, when they travel to face Georgian Court University in Lakewood, New jersey. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
