McCann scores 21 in Exhibition Loss to Division I Binghamton

The Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball team closed out the month of December with an exhibition game against division I Binghamton University falling to the Bearcats  68-54 in Vestal, New York.

Bridie McCann led all scorers with 21 points (8-16 FG, 3-8 3FG) and was the lone Griffin to reach double figures.  Bri Rider added eight points while Avery White chipped in seven.  Kaitlyn Carter led the team with eight rebounds while Caleigh Edwards grabbed six.

Lindsey Lane started the scoring with a three-point basket as the Griffins opened an early 5-1 lead.  The Bearcats came back with six straight points before McCann broke the run with a three-point basket, giving the Griffins an 8-7 lead.  Binghamton closed out the quarter with a  10-4 run to take a 17-12 lead heading into the second period.  Rider scored both CHC baskets in the final four minutes of the quarter.

The Griffins quickly tied the score with five straight points to open the second quarter.  The Bearcats came back with five straight points of their own to again build a five-point advantage.  The Griffins went back to chipping away at the Bearcat lead, eventually pulling ahead 28-26 on McCann's three-pointer with 26 seconds left in the quarter.  BU's Megan Casey sank a three-pointer at the buzzer as the Bearcats regained the lead 29-28 at halftime.

McCann opened the third quarter with a layup to give the Griffins the lead again.  The Bearcats followed with their biggest run of the game, a 13-0 spurt to take a 42-30 lead with 5:20 left in the quarter. McCann broke the run with a layup ten seconds later before the Bearcats extended their lead to 16, 48-32 and took a 52-38 lead into the final period.

The Bearcats maintained their double digit lead for the final quarter.  The Griffins did score the final seven points of the game, with a traditional three-point play by Jessica Mangoni making the final score 68-54.

For the game, the Griffins shot 34.4% (21-61) while the Bearcats shot 38.3% (26-67).  CHC shot 40%(6-15) from three-point range and 60% from the free throw line.  Binghamton outrebounded Chestnut Hill 45-39 and took committed just nine turnovers to CHC's 14.

The women's basketball team returns to action on January 3, 2024 when they travel to face Goldey-Beacom College in Wilmington, Delaware.  Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
