Baseball Team Falls to New Haven

The Chestnut Hill college baseball team dropped their third game of the season Saturday afternoon at the Northeast Challenge in Myrtle Beach, south Carolina, losing to the University of New Haven, 8-5

Brendon Long took the loss for the Griffins, going five innings and allowing all eight runs (five earned). Long struck out five and did not walk a batter.

Offensively the Griffins banged out ten hits with four different players recording multiple hit games.  Ahmaad Goldson went 2-for-5 with a home run and drove in three runs.  Justin Geiger had three hits while David Antone and Andrew Sawarynski had two apiece.

New Haven jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings, scoring five times in the first and once more in the second.  Antone led off the fourth with a double and Goldson followed with his first CHC home run to cut the deficit to 6-2.  Nate O'Donnell doubled and scored on an error in the fifth inning to make the score 6-3.

The Chargers added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take an 8-3 lead.

The Griffins scored their final two runs in the seventh inning as Antone hit his second double of the game and scored on a Goldson single.  Goldson later scored on an infield groundout by Ruben Piccardo to round out the game scoring.    

Tom Eletto got the win for New Haven tossing five innings and allowing three runs on four hits.

The Chestnut Hill college baseball team will conclude their four-game Northeast Challenge schedule with a game on Sunday February 26 against Queens college of New York.
