The Chestnut Hill College Men's Lacrosse team faced a nationally ranked team for the second time this season, Mercyhurst University, with the Griffins coming up on the short end of an 11-2 loss in snow-covered Erie, Pennsylvania on Saturday.
The Griffins fall to 1-2 on the season. The Lakers, ranked #2 in the most recent United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) division II poll, improve to 4-0.
Will Duddy and
Noah Hammon scored CHC's only goals of the game.
Austin Jones had 15 saves in net for the Griffins.
The Lakers jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second quarter when Duddy took a pass from
Dan Grubb and put it past MU goalkeeper Brett Olney with 49 seconds left in the half to cut the deficit to 6-1 by halftime.
Chestnut Hill had limited the Lakers to just one first quarter goal and did so again in the third quarter. Now trailing 7-1, Hammon took a pass from Duddy and scored just 29 seconds into the final period to make the score 7-2. The Lakers then tacked on four unanswered goals to secure the 11-2 win.
