Men's Lacrosse Dominant in Win over Firebirds

Ten different players scored a goal as the Chestnut Hill College Men's Lacrosse team turned in a dominant performance Saturday afternoon, defeating host University of the district of Columbia, 17-2 in Washington, D.C.

The Griffins improve to 3-2 overall while UDC falls to 0-4.

Will Duddy led the way, scoring three goals.  He also added an assist for four points.  Sam Slater had two goals and three assists for a team high five points while Noah Hammon had two goals and a pair of assists for four points.  Joseph Lojewski had two goals and an assist while Jake Homan and Zach Jastrzebski had two goals apiece.  Cade Johnson assisted on four of the Griffins 17 scores.

On the defensive end, Julius Sorino made his first collegiate start, recording nine saves and earning the win.  CHC caused 18 turnovers and the Firebirds had 27 total. Daniel Myers led the team with three caused turnovers while Myers and Hammon led a total of 23 different Griffins who recorded a ground ball on the afternoon, grabbing four apiece.  The Griffin defense also did a great job pressuring the ball, holding UDC to just nine clears in 27 attempts.

The Griffins outshot the Firebirds 52-19 (42-14 on goal).

A different player scored one of the Griffins' first eight goals with Jason Jenkins opening things up with an unassisted tally at the 11:39 mark of the first quarter.  Jastrzebski, Hammon and Lojewski all added goals in the final 2:44 of the period, giving CHC a 4-0 lead.

Zach Litty and Zachary Whalen both got into the scoring column with goals 36 seconds apart in the second quarter.  Slater and Duddy also followed with a pair of goals less than a minute apart with Duddy's score coming at the 5:44 mark.  Slater notched his second goal of the game as time expired in the half giving the Griffins a 9-0 lead.

The Griffins continued to hold the firebirds scoreless for nearly the entire third quarter while tacking on four more goals including one from Mike Smith and Duddy, Lojewski and Jastrzebski's second goals of the game to lead 13-0.  UDC got on the board, scoring with just 35 seconds left in the quarter.

Jake Homan scored both his goals in the fourth quarter while Brendan Lang assisted on Hammon's second goal and Duddy's third.  UDC scored again with 6:35 left in the game, making the score 16-2 at the time before Duddy rounded out the scoring 27 seconds later.

The men's lacrosse team returns to action on Wednesday, March 22 with a home game against Davis and Elkins College.  First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Victory Field in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania.
