The Chestnut Hill College Women's Lacrosse team traveled northeast to Lakewood, New Jersey on Tuesday to take on Georgian Court University. The defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champions scored the first six goals and pulled away in the second half, handing the Griffins a 26-4 loss.
Chestnut Hill is now 3-6 overall and 0-4 in CACC games. GCU improves to 5-5 overall and 4-0 in league play.
Madyson Schwartz led the team with three goals.
Molly Killion had a team-high three ground balls and was one of four CHC players to have a caused turnover in the match.
Mel Amador had 15 saves in goal for the Griffins.
The Lions took a 6-0 lead after the first period. Schwartz scored twice in a span of 16 seconds in the second period to cut the lead to 6-2. Schwartz was assisted on the first goal by
Danielle Vassallo. The senior attacker's second goal was a free position goal. Vassallo later had her own free position goal with 4:07 left in the second quarter, cutting the Lions lead to 9-3. GCU added two more scores in the final four minutes and led 11-3 at halftime.
Seven unanswered goals by the Lions put the game out of reach at 18-3 as the third period was coming to a close. Schwartz then scored her third goal of the game and team leading 24
th of the season. With 1:21 left in the third quarter.
Frances Vassallo earned the assist on Schwartz's final score of the game.
GCU closed out the game with seven goals in the fourth quarter.
Riley O'Connor led GCU with nine goals.
The Women's Lacrosse team is home for their next game, taking on Felician University at Victory Field in Lafayette Hill. First draw is set for 7:00 p.m.
