The Chestnut Hill College Women's Team earned their first win of the 2023 spring session Thursday afternoon, defeating Bloomsburg University 6-1.
The Griffins improve to 8-10 overall while the Huskies drop to 0-7
Chestnut Hill took the early 1-0 lead in the match with a clean sweep of the three doubles contests.Â
Carlota Garcia Arguelles and
Romi Meirovich defeat Luana Bernardi and Lexi Quackenbush 6-3 at #1 doubles, getting the ball rolling.Â
Claudia Rasilla and
Annika Wise followed with a 6-1 win at #3 doubles over Alese Rinker and Sarah Capoferri.Â
Nele Haag and
Alison Isaac completed the sweep with a 6-3 win over Jen McDonald and Nicole Ilkovic at #2 doubles.
Isaac gave the Griffins a 2-0 lead I the match, defeating Quackenbush, 6-2, 7-2as singles play began. Garcia Arguelles followed with a 6-0, 6-4 win over McDonald at #2 singles. Ilkovic then scored the Huskies' only point with a win over Rasilla that went to a 10-point tiebreaker after the two players split the first two sets, 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-4).
Meirovich clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Capoferri at #5 singles and Haag gave the Griffins a 5-1 lead with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Bernardi at #4 singles. Wise closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Rinker at #6 singles.
The women's tennis team returns to action on Sunday, April 2, 20-23 when they host Kutztown University. First serve is set for noon.
