Bald Eagles Take Series Finale from Griffins

An early lead slipped away as the Chestnut Hill College Baseball team dropped the final game of a three game series against Lock Haven University 7-5 at the James J. Ramp Athletic field in Northeast Philadelphia on Sunday.

The Griffins fall to 1-8 overall while the Bald Eagles improve to 6-4.

Ahmaad Goldson hit his second home run of the season – a two-run opposite field shot over the left field fence in the bottom of the third inning.    R.J. Huth had two hits and an RBI on the afternoon while Nate O'Donnell also drove in a pair a runs.

Kade Breisblatt pitched five innings, allowing six runs on six hits while striking out three in the losing effort.

The Bald Eagles opened the game with a solo run before the Griffins came back to score three times in the bottom of the second inning.  Justin Geiger drew a one-out walk and went to third on a perfectly executed hit and run single by Lloyd McLaughlin.  Huth followed with a single to score Geiger and both runners then moved into scoring position on an infield out.  O'Donnell then delivered a single to right field which was misjudged by the LHU outfielder as he advanced to second before being gunned down at third to end the inning after McLoughlin and Huth scored to give the Griffins a 3-1 lead.

Still leading 3-2 in the bottom of the third, Goldson delivered  his monster blast with two out in the inning to make the score 5-2.  Lock Haven added two runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth on Blaise Zeider's two-run home run to take a 6-5 lead.

The Bald Eagles tacked on an insurance run in the top half of the ninth inning.  Aiden Nesemeier had a pinch hit single in the ninth with one out but was retired on a game ending double play.

Aeden Walter earned the win for Lock Haven, throwing five innings and allowing five runs on four hits while striking out six.

The baseball team returns to action on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 to face Kutztown University for a single nine inning road contest before they begin their spring trip to North Carolina. The first pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
