Cade Johnson and
Noah Hammon recorded seven point games as the Chestnut Hill College Men's Lacrosse team extended their winning streak to seven games with a 16-5 triumph at the University of Bridgeport Saturday afternoon.
The Griffins are now 8-2 overall and remain unbeaten in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games with a 4-0 mark. Bridgeport falls to 1-9 overall and 0-4 in league play.
Hammon produced his second six-goal game this season and added an assist for seven total points. Johnson had four goals and three assists on the afternoon for his seven-point performance.
Will Duddy scored twice while
Jack Clyne dished out three assists.
Sam Slater also had a pair of assists.
On the defensive end,
Zach Schultz led the way with eight ground balls while also winning 13 of 24 faceoffs.
Dan Grubb and
Chase Snyder had two caused turnovers apiece. Clyne, Grubb and
Zach Whalen added three ground balls apiece.
The Griffins jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter with Hammon scoring the first two goals and Johnson and
Joseph Lojewski adding scores as the period progressed. Hammon's third goal of the game just over two minutes into the second period made the score 5-0.
Bridgeport scored four of their five goals in the second quarter, closing the gap to 7-4 at halftime.
Hammon's fifth goal of the game at the 10:30 mark of the third quarter made the score 8-4. UB's Noah Beard followed with his third goal of the game, cutting the lead back to three 8-5. This would be as close as the Purple Knights would come as the Griffins added two more goals in the third and outscored their hosts 6-0 in the fourth quarter.
Zach Jastrzebski and
Nate Matthews scored within a minute of each other in the third to increase CHC's lead to 10-5. Johnson had three of the Griffins' six fourth quarter goals. Duddy scored his second of the game at the 12:11 mark to start the scoring spree, followed by an unassisted score from Johnson. Hammon notched his sixth goal at the 7:41 mark.
Jason Jenkins (1:48) and Johnson (0:44) rounded out the scoring.
The men's lacrosse team returns to action on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, when they travel to face Georgian court University in Lakewood, New Jersey. First faceoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
