All streaks must end at some point and for the Chestnut Hill college Men's Lacrosse team, that point was yesterday as the Griffins fell to Georgian Court University 9-5 in Lakewood, New Jersey.
The loss snaps the Griffins' seven-game win streak that started with their four-overtime win at Molloy on March 15. The Griffins are now 8-3 overall and 4-1 in Central Atlantic collegiate conference games. Georgian court is now 5-0 in league play and 9-5 overall
Five different players had one goal apiece for the Griffins with all five tallies being unassisted scores. Â
Zach Schultz dominated the faceoff circle winning 12 of 18 and grabbing nine ground balls. However, the Griffins only scored goals on two of the ensuing possessions and turned the ball over five times.
Dan Grubb and
Daniel Myers had two caused turnovers apiece while
Colby Seneca and
Austin Jones recorded three ground balls apiece. Jones, the CHC goalkeeper, had 19 saves on the afternoon.
The Lions jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period before the Griffins scored twice in the second to even the game at 2-2.  Seneca scored the first goal at the 12:16 mark and
Zach Jastrzebski added the second at 10:53. GCU tallied a man-up score with just 19 seconds left to lead 3-2 at the half.
The Lions defense held the Griffins scoreless in the third period as they expanded their lead to 6-2 and added another score three minutes into the final quarter to push their advantage to 7-2.
Will Duddy and
Noah Hammon scored less than a minute apart to cut the lead to 7-4 with 9:56 left in the game.Â
Zachary Whelan's goal with 3:46 cut the lead to 7-5 but that would be as close as the Griffins would get. The Lions scored twice in the final two minutes to round out the scoring. Â
The men's lacrosse team is back in action on Saturday, April 22, 2023 when they host Post University. The game will be played at the CHC Athletic Field on campus and will start at 12:00 p.m. Prior to the game, the Griffins will recognize their senior players.
