Senior Day was celebrated by the Chestnut Hill college Men's Lacrosse team as they played their final regular season home contest on the grass at the CHC Athletic Field Saturday afternoon, taking on Post University.
The ceremony prior to the game went smoothly however that was not the case for the actual game as the Griffins' offense struggled again while the defense gave up 11 goals as the Eagles upset the Griffins 11-9.
The Griffins fall to 8-4 overall and 4-2 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. Post improves to 8-4 overall and 4-1 in league play. Despite the loss, the Griffins have clinched a spot in the upcoming CACC playoffs as other teams were eliminated due to a weekend loss.
Seniors recognized prior to the game were midfielders Jack Clyne, Joseph Lojewski, Blaise McCabe, Nick Ricco, Colby Seneca and Mike Smith; attack players Jason Jenkins II and Brendon Lang; Defenders Daniel Grubb and Will North; goalkeepers Austin Jones and Jake Miller and faceoff specialists Javon Felix and Zach Schultz.
Back to the game, Noah Hammon and Nate Matthews scored two goals apiece.  Schultz led the team with eight ground balls and Chase Snyder had three cause turnovers. Austin Jones had nine saves in goal.
The game was less than three minutes old when the eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Griffins answered with three straight scores to take their only lead of the game at 3-2.
Hammon scored at the 11:14 mark and again with 3:24 left in the period. Will Duddy had a goal at the 6:48 mark. Hammon's second goal was assisted by Clyne. Post tied the game at 3-3 with just over two minutes left in the opening quarter.
The Eagles outscored the Griffins 5-1 in the second quarter with Matthews scoring the only goal at the 11:54 mark, pulling CHC within two at the time 6-4.
Trailing 8-4 at half, Clyne and Cade Johnson opened the third quarter scoring as the Griffins crawled back within two 8-6. Matthews assisted on Clyne's goal while Duddy earned the assist on Johnsons. Matthews scored his second goal of the game with 6:06 left in the third to bring the Griffins within one at 8-7.
Three straight goals from the eagles as the third period ended and the fourth began pushed the visitors lead to 11-7 with 12:50 left in the game. Following a timeout, the Griffins tallied two scores in the next 2:16 with Zach Jastrzebski scoring at the 11:23 mark and Zachary Whelan at the 10:34 mark. Johnson assisted on both goals.
Chestnut Hill's offense then went stone cold, producing just three shots over the final 10:34 with only one of those on goal. The Griffins also gave the Eagles three man-up opportunities in the final 7:27 of the game. Although Post never capitalized on the man-up opportunities it forced the Griffins to play longer on defense and thus having less time on the offensive end to attack and possibly score.
The men's lacrosse team returns to action as they travel to Caldwell University for their final regular season game, taking on Caldwell University. First faceoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
