Two members of the Chestnut Hill College Men's Cross Country team completed Saturday's 8,000 meter course at the Lock Haven University Invitational in under 27 minutes as the Griffins finished 28th overall as a team at the invitational meet in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania.
The Griffins scored 782 points to place 28th overall out of the 37 teams competing. University of harleston (W. Va.) won the race with a score of 60 points.
Cole Stanchina led the way for the Griffins, running the second fastest *K time in program history at 25:33.9 to place 58th overall. Christopher Nelson followed with a time of 26:38.2, the eighth fasted time in program history, placing 126th out of 264 finishers.
The race marked the first time that a pair of Griffin at the 2017 Paul Short Invitational. runners raced and finished an 8K race in under 27 minutes since the 2017 season when Ziggy Fisher and Zack Bush ran 26:28 and 26:41. Stanchina, Nelson, Fisher and Bush are the only four runners in the Chestnut Hill College program history to run an 8,000-meter race in under 27 minutes.
The Griffins third finisher, Jason Fisher placed 168th overall with a time of 27:23.1. His time ranks 15th on the Griffins' all-time performance list.
A trio of Griffins made their season debut at Saturday's race with Jason Rivas finishing in 38:01.5 and a pair of newcomers making their collegiate debuts, Demitri Pierre Perez and Elijah Williams, finishing with times of 40:40,7 and 49:51.7 respectively.
The Chestnut Hill College Men's Cross Country Team returns to action on Saturday September 30, 2023 to compete at the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
