Griffins Battle but Fall Short against Shippensburg

Three Chestnut Hill College volleyball players recorded double-doubles as the Griffins battled Shippensburg University Tuesday night at Sorgenti Arena. When the final point was tallied, the Raiders had recorded a 3-1 win over the Griffins.

The Griffins fall to 3-7 overall while the Raiders improve to 10-5. 

Shippensburg won the first set 25-19 before the griffins battled to win the second set 27-25 to even the match at 1-1.  The Raiders eked out a 25-23 in the third set and pulled away to win the final set 25-18 to clinch the match.

Erika Dubosky led the Griffins with 15 kills while Rachel Mace added ten.  The two CHC players finished the match with double-doubles as Dubosky led all players with 20 digs while Mace added 12 digs.  Setting the offense for Chestnut Hill was Mia Caporellie also recorded a double-double on the night with 39 assists and ten digs.  Caporellie also had two aces while Angela April led the team with three.

April also led all players with six blocks on the night while Cha'kya Johnson added four blocks.  Chloe Mettille and Torrin Kelley reached double figures in digs with 11 and ten respectively.

When comparing the numbers for the two teams, The Raiders held a slight edge in kills (51-47) and digs (68-67). Shippensburg produced twice as many aces (16-8) as the Griffins while the griffins had twice as many team blocks (8-3).

Gracen Nutt had 17 kills to lead the raiders while Kaitlyn Townsend added 13.  Kearstin Davis had 46 assists.  Kat Negron led the team with five aces.  Maddie Clabaugh was the Raiders leader in digs with 19.

The Chestnut Hill College Women's Volleyball team returns to action on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, when they travel to face Millersville University.
