Griffins Sweep Bears for Third Conference Victory

The Chestnut Hill College Women's Volleyball team won their third conference match of the season Saturday afternoon, sweeping Bloomfield College 3-0 at Sorgenti Arena.

The Griffins improve to 4-8 overall and 3-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games.  The Bears fall to 0-6 overall and 0-5 in league play.

Chestnut Hill won the first two sets by identical scores of 25-14 and proceeded to complete the sweep with a dominating 25-6 win in the third set.

Erika Dubosky and Rachel Mace led all players with nine kills while Angela April added six as the trio combined for 24 of CHC's 32 kills in the match.  Mia Caporellie led the team with 22 assists and was one of four Griffin players with two services aces.

On the defensive side, Mace led the Griffins with 11 digs while Dubosky,  Caporellie and Natalie Albin recorded eight digs apiece.  Torrin Kelley had six digs.  Caporellie also led all players with three blocks while Maya Hopson added two.

Bloomfield came out swinging, scoring three of the first four points before the Griffins exploded with a 13-3 run to take control of the opening set.  Mace tallied five kills over the course of the run with Dubosky netting two and Caporellie adding her first ace of the game.  The Griffins extended the lead to 22-11 before two errors by the Bears brough CHC to set-point with Mace nabbing the final kill, giving the Griffins a 1-0 lead in the match

The second set remained close for much of the first set of serving before the Griffins ran off five straight points to take a 16-8 lead and never looked back.  Chloe Mettille's ace was the deciding point in the set as the Griffins again won 25-14 and now held a 2-0 lead in the match.

Chestnut Hill never trailed in the third set, scoring eight of the first nine points to take a huge 8-1 lead.  The Bears closed within 10-4 before Albin served up both of her service aces to push the Griffins lead to 14-4.  Chestnut Hill outscored Bloomfield 11-2 the rest of the set with Pamela Uceta setting Angela April for the final two kills of the match for a 25-6 win in the set and completing the 3-0 sweep.

The Chestnut Hill College women's volleyball team returns to action on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, when they travel to face Holy Family University for a CACC South Division clash.  Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
