The Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball team won their sixth straight game Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 72-46 win over host university of Bridgeport at UB's Harvey Hubbell Gym in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
The Griffins improve to 10-5 overall and 5-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play. The Purple Knights fall to 2-2 in league play and 3-11 overall.
Nine different players scored at least four points for Chestnut Hill with three of those reaching double figures.Â
Bridie McCann led the way for CHC, sinking five three point baskets (5-9) for 15 points.
Avery White and
Emily Sekerak chipped in 11 and ten points respectively.Â
Lindsey Lane added eight points and
Sara Tamoun had seven with a perfect 3-for-3 afternoon from the field.
Kaitlyn Carter had another solid game on defense, grabbing a game high nine rebounds and recording a steal.
Caleigh Edwards had seven rebounds and three assists.
Bri Rider added six rebounds. McCann and Tamoun led the team with four assists apiece with White also contributing three. Sekerak led the squad with three steals.
The Griffins led this one wire-to-wire, scoring the first ten points and jumping out to a 28-9 advantage after one period shooting a solid 68.8% from the field
Chestnut Hill also shot over 60% in the fourth quarter, making seven of 11 shots (63.6%). Four of the seven baskets were three point scores (two from McCann, one from
Caraline Herb  (6 points)and the final one from Rider.  Herb's three-ball, her second of the game, with 3:20 left gave the Griffins their biggest lead of the afternoon at 69-38.
White and Tamoun also sank three-point shots giving the Griffins a total of ten for the contest, just the second time this season the team has made ten or more three-point baskets and the first time this season against a CACC squad. Tamoun's three-ball was  from several feet beyond the arc, shot as the buzzer was sounding to end the first quarter and banked in off the glass.
CHC also shot 50% from three-point range (10-20) for just the second time this season. Overall, from the field, the Griffins shot 49.2% (29-59) while holding the Purple Knights to just 28.8% shooting (17-59) from the field. Chestnut Hill also held a 42-23 rebounding advantage while UB committed fewer turnover (UB-13, CHC – 20)
The women's basketball team returns to action on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, for their final non-conference regular season game, hosting Mercy University at Sorgenti Arena. Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
