Five players reached double figures with three of them recording double-doubles as the Chestnut Hill college Men's basketball team again rallied from a second half deficit to earn their third consecutive win, defeating Mercy University 76-64 Tuesday night at Sorgenti arena.
The Griffins improve to 4-13 on the season while the Mavericks drop to 1-13.
Neal Hill came within one assist of recording a triple double on the night, scoring ten points  (5-8 FG), grabbing 12 rebounds and passing out nine assists.Â
Alejandro Redondo Cybak notched his third consecutive double-double with 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.Â
Lucas Dunn completed the trio of double-doubles with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Kamal Lee led all scorers with 19 points (6-10 FG, 5-8 3FG) and also had three steals on the night.Â
Argel Pettit IV rounded out the double figure scorers with 14 points coming off the bench.
Mercy held a five-point lead at halftime, 36-31 and expanded it to nine, 42-33, with a 6-2 run to start the second half Chestnut Hill followed with a 10-2 uprising to pull within one 44-43, with 14:07 left, getting a pair of three-point goals from Lee along with baskets from Cybak and
Donald-James Imo.  Back-to-back baskets on the Mavericks next two possessions increased their lead to six, 49-43. Chestnut Hill then scored seven straight points to take their first lead since the 3:21 mark of the first half, 60-49 with 11:34 remaining.
Back-and-forth action followed over the next four minutes and the game was tied at 56-56 when the Griffins produced a 7-0 run to take control of the contest, 63-56 with 6:10 remaining.  Mercy rallied with an 8-3 run to pull within two 66-64 with 3:09 left in the contest but would not score again as Chestnut Hill scored the final ten points to pull away with the double-digit victory.
The Griffins had a solid second half shooting percentage of 47% (16-34) to offset a 34% first half effort and finish the game shooting 40.6% (28-69) from the field. Mercy also shot 40.6% from the field (26-64). CHC made two more three-pointers (9-7) than Mercy and also outscored the Mavericks 11-5 on the free throw line. The Griffins held a 43-39 rebounding advantage and took advantage of 12 MU turnovers, scoring 17 points. The Griffins had nine turnovers with the Mavericks scoring just four points off the miscues.
The men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, January 20, 2024, when they travel to Caldwell University to take on the cougars in a CACC crossover contest. Tipoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
