Three players scored in double figures but the Chestnut Hill College Men's Basketball team had their three-game winning streak snapped, falling to host Caldwell University 74-56 Saturday afternoon at the Newman Center in Caldwell, N.J.
The Griffins fall to 4-14 overall and 3-4 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. The Cougars improve to 8-7 overall and 4-2 in league play.
Donald-James Imo led the Griffins with 13 points.
Argel Pettit IV and
Neal Hill added ten points. Hill also recorded another double-double, grabbing 11 rebounds.
Alejandro Redondo Cybak just missed a double-double, scoring nine points and grabbing a game-high 12 assists.
Marshall Baker came off the bench to score nine points.
The Cougars led by 16 at the half, 38-22 and expanded it to 23 points, with a 9-2 run over the first five minutes of the second half, 47-24. The Griffins followed with a 15-4 run over the next five minutes to pull within 12, 51-39. Pettit had eight of the 15 points in the run, including a pair of three-point field goals. An Imo field goal with 4:27 left brought the Griffins within 11, 60-49 before the Cougars ran off ten straight points to up the lead to 21 with just under two minutes remaining. CHC finished the game on an 8-4 run to make the final margin 18 points.
Chestnut Hill never led in the contest as the Cougars opened up a ten-point lead midway through the first half, 19-9 and increased it to 16 by the end of the period.
The Griffins struggled from the field in the contest making just 29.2% of their shots (19-65) while Caldwell shot 42.9% (24-56) from the field. The Cougars also made 23 of 26 shots from the free throw line while the Griffins made just 14 of 20. The Cougars also held a 46-38 rebounding advantage.
The men's basketball team returns to action on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 when they host Georgian Court University in a CACC South division contest. Tipoff is set for 3 pm.
