The Chestnut Hill College Women's Bowling team opened up the 2024 portion on their season Friday morning, participating in one of the toughest and most competitive tournaments on their schedule, the Northeast Classic in Wilmington, Delaware.
The tournament features 14 of the top 15 teams in the country and 19 of the top 25 as ranked by the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA). In Friday's Baker format contests, the Griffins faced four nationally ranked teams, including #1 Jacksonville State University. The Griffins were competitive throughout the five matches but finished the day without a win.
Eryn Moore led the Griffins on Friday, filling 41 of 50 frames bowled for an 82% average.
The Griffins opened the day with a match against #3 Youngstown State University, falling to the Penguins 1076-838. Â Moore filled nine of ten frames with seven strikes.Â
Kayleina McGonigal also filled nine of ten frames with five strikes in the contest.
Oklahoma Christian University, the #20 team in the nation was next for the Griffins.
Chase Clifford filled eight of ten frames with six strikes as the Griffins dropped the match 976-863. McGonigal and Moore each filled seven of ten frames.
Chestnut Hill then faced they top team in the country, Jacksonville State University, falling to the Gamecocks, 1131-776.Â
Maddy Feldschneider filled six of six frames while Moore filled seven of ten.
Abigail Crumb filled all ten frames as the Griffins fell to #7 Nebraska, 1060-855 in the fourth match of the day. The Cornhuskers bowled a 300-game in the third game of the match. Moore continued her solid play, filling nine of ten frames.
The Griffins final match of the day was against University of Alabama-Birmingham. It was also CHC's closest contest of the first day of competition with UAB pulling out the win 873-814. Moore filled nine of ten frames for the third time in five matches.Â
Jessica Hollabaugh filled eight of ten frames. Â
Competition at the Northeast Classic continues on Saturday with the Griffins competing in five traditional format matches and concludes Sunday with best-of-seven-baker matches.
