Sara Tamoun led three players in double figures as the Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball team won their tenth consecutive game, defeating Dominican University 70-60 at the Hennessy Center in Orangeburg, New York Saturday afternoon.
The Griffins improve to 14-5 overall and 8-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. The Chargers fall to 6-10 overall and 3-4 in league contests. CHC's ten-game winning streak is currently the longest active streak in Division II's East Region.
Tamoun scored 15 points (5-8 FG, 2 3FG, 3-4 FT) to lead all scorers in the contest.Â
Emily Sekerak added 13 points while
Avery White chipped in 12 (5-6 FG, one 3FG).
Kaitlyn Carter turned in another solid defensive performance with 12 defensive rebounds (13 total) and two blocked shots. Sekerak also had two blocks while grabbing eight rebounds.
Caleigh Edwards led the team with four assists while white recorded two steals on the afternoon.
Tamoun scored 12 of her 15 points in the second half, including eight in a 2:35 stretch in the third quarter that capped off a 14-6 run and gave the Griffins a double-digit lead, 47-37 with 2:06 left. The Chargers cut the lead in half with five straight points before Carter's three-point basket pushed the lead back to eight, 50-42 heading into the fourth quarter.
Dominican opened the fourth quarter with a 6-2 run to pull within two 52-50. After both teams exchanged baskets, the Griffins countered withy a 7-2 run to push their lead back up to nine 61-54 midway through the quarter. Edwards scored the first five points on a pair of baskets (one three-pointer) and
Lindsey Lane (seven points) capped the run with a layup. The two teams again exchanged baskets before Tamoun push the lead back to double digits, 66-56, with her second three-ball of the game with 3:33 left. Chestnut Hill made four of eight free throws in the final 72 seconds to seal the win.
The first half saw five ties and seven lead changes as neither team led by more than four points until the final seconds of the second quarter when Sekerak scored the final six points of the period to erase a 28-27 DUNY lead and give the Griffins a 33-28 lead at halftime.
Bridie McCann scored all eight of her points in the first quarter, connecting on three of four shots (two three-pointers).Â
Caraline Herb and White each had a three-point basket and finished the quarter with five points apiece as the Griffins held onto a slim 20-18 lead.

Tanasha Mills led four Chargers in double figures with 15 points.  Alexis Suarez and Chidinma Ndukauba had a team-high nine rebounds apiece to go along with ten points each. Cayla Howard had 14 points.
 The Griffins made seven or more three-point baskets for the fifth time in the last six games and shot over 60% from distance for the second consecutive game, making eight of 12 (66.7%). Overall, the Griffins shot 44.1% from the field.
Defensively, the Griffins, who are one of only five NCAA Division II teams in the country that are holding opponents to 34% or less shooting in games, held the Chargers to 33.3% (23-69) and 35% (7-20) from three point range.
Chestnut Hill had a slight rebounding edge, 45-43 while Dominican committed two fewer turnovers (13-15).
The women's basketball team returns to action on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, when they host Wilmington University in CACC south division contest. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
