Erika Dubosky added another milestone accomplishment to her stellar resume as a member of the Chestnut Hill College Women's Volleyball team as the Griffins won their fifth straight match, defeating Caldwell University 3-0 Saturday afternoon at Sorgenti arena.
Dubosky with her eighth kill of the afternoon, her final one in the second set, became just the fourth player in program history to reach the 1,000-kill plateau. Earlier this week against Wilmington, the senior outside hitter became the fourth player in program history to surpass 150 career service aces and against Elizabeth City State early in the season, she became the seventh player in program history to record 1,000 career digs.  Dubosky is currently the only player in program history to have achieved all three, 1000+ kills, 1000+ digs and 150+ aces.
Back to the match, the Griffins rallied from an early deficit to take the first set 25-15. The team won the next two sets 25-18 and 25-20 to complete the sweep.Â
Chestnut Hill improves to 10-5 overall and 5-2 in Central Atlantic Collegiate conference games. Caldwell falls to 1-13 overall and 1-5 in league play.
Angela April led the Griffins with 11 kills while hitting .500 (11 kills – 3 errors, 16-attack attempts). Dubosky added nine kills on the afternoon while Cha'Kya Johnson had seven while making just one attack error in nine attack attempts.
Mia Caporellie led the team with 30 assists and also recorded two service aces. Rachel Mace led CHC with three aces while Alexandra Crespin also had two.
Mace and Dubosky led the team with nine and eight digs respectively while Crespin had seven. Maya Hopson had three blocks.
The cougars scored e first four points of the match and led 5-1 before the Griffins rallied to tie the score 7-7 in the first set. Â The Griffins with Pamela Uceta serving went on to score six straight points to lead 13-7 and never looked back, pulling away late to win the set 25-10.
The Griffins jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the second set, following two straight aces from Mace. Chestnut Hill led 8-4 when the Cougars went on a6-2 run to tie the score and 10-10. The set was still tied at 15-15 when the Griffins started to pull away. Getting kills from four different players and an ace from Katelyn Dougherty before blocking two attack attempts to seal a 25-18 set win.Â
Chestnut Hill led wire-to-wire in the final set, which turned out to be the closest on the three played., 25-20. The Griffins jumped out to a 7-1 lead before the Cougars scored four straight to pull within two, 7-5. This would be as close as the Cougars would come in the set as the Griffins gradually pulled away, securing the match with the five point win.
Wyette Schubert Brown led the Cougars with six kills while Jordan Mack had 17 assists and four aces. Three different CU players tallied four digs apiece to lead the Cougars.
The women's volleyball team returns to action on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, when they host holy Family University. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
