Griffins Sweep Tigers to Extend Winning Streak to Six Games

The Chestnut Hill College Women's Volleyball team won their six straight match Wednesday night, defeating Holy Family University 3-0 at Sorgenti Arena.

The Griffins improve to 11-5 overall and 6-2 in central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games.  The tigers fall to 6-10 overall and 2-4 in league play.   The Griffins' six-game winning streak is the longest in program history.

The Griffins battled to win the opening set 25-23 and cruised to a 25-14 win in the second set before battling again to complete the sweep with a 25-22 win.

Rachel Mace and Erika Dubosky led the Griffins with ten kills apiece.  Mia Caporellie had five aces and set the Chestnut Hill offense with 23 assists. Pamela Uceta added three aces.

On defense Alexandra Crespin led the team with 13 digs.  Mace added 11 and Caporellie ten to record her eighth double-double of the season. Angela April and Maya Hopson had three blocks apiece.

The opening set saw nine ties  as both teams struggled to find their offense.  The Tigers took a 14-11 lead, and the Griffins countered with a 7-2 run to take an 18-16 lead, getting two kills from Mace another from Dubosky and four errors from the Tigers. Holy Family rallied to score four straight points to lead 20-18, forcing a Griffin timeout.  Following the time out the Griffins scored five of the next six points to retake control of the game, 23-21.   HFU then rallied to tie the game before two straight attack errors gave the set to the Griffins 25-23.

Chestnut Hill took a 7-7 tie in the second set and turned it into a 19-10 lead with a 12-3 run fueled by three aces from Caporellie and a pair of aces from Crespin. An Uceta ace increased the lead to 21-11 before two kills from Mace closed out the set, giving the Griffins a 2-0 lead in the match.

Holy Family jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the third set before the Griffins countered with a 9-1 run to retake the lead at 10-8.  Dubosky started the rally with the first two of her seven kills in the set.  The griffins also forced four straight errors from the Tigers before Uceta slammed down a kill to tie the game.  Another Tiger error and an Uceta ace put the Griffins up 10-8.

The Tigers scored twice to tie the game at 10-10.  Six more ties ensued as the set progressed with the last being at 17-17. Dubosky followed with three kills and Uceta another ace to put the Griffins ahead 21-17 and force a Tiger timeout. After the timeout, the Tigers battled back within one 23-22 but back-to-back kills from Mace and Cha'kya Johnson sealed the win.

Jayden Bralts led the Tigers with ten kills while Morgan Steck had 20 assists and ten digs. Cadence Palmer led HFU with 16 digs while Leah Logan and Kalia Espenlaub had three blocks apiece.
