Roberts Wesleyan Hands Griffins Second Loss to Begin Season

Three players reached double figures for the Chestnut Hill College Men's Basketball team, but the Griffins dropped their final game of the 2024 East Region Challenge, presented by Western New York Knee and Orthopedic Surgery PC  in Amherst, New York, losing to Roberts Wesleyan University 88-75 Saturday afternoon.

The Griffins fall to 0-2.  The Redhawks improve to 1-1.

IV Pettit led the Griffins with 18 points (9-10 FT) while Noah Charles chipped in 16.  Alejandro Redondo Cybak had 11 points . 

Cybak also notched a double-double with 11 rebounds.  Neal Hill also had 11 rebounds.

The Redhawks built a double-digit lead 28-18 with 8:06 left in the first half, increasing the margin to as many as 15 before settling for a 12-point halftime lead 45-33.

Roberts built the lead to 17 just five minutes into the second half before the Griffins ran off eight straight points to cut the lead to single digits, 58-49 with 13:08 left.  A three-point basket from the Redhawks pushed their lead back up into double figures where it stayed until the Griffins again cut the lead to nine on a Charles layup with 2:26 left, 77-68.  The lead oscillated between eight and 11 points until two RWU free throws in the final seconds provided the final 13 -point margin of victory.

Malik brooks led the Redhawks with 26 points while Jermaine Taggart II chipped in 16.  Ryan Garwood had ten points and Arnado Camacho filled the stat sheet with 16 rebounds, eight assists, seven steals and nine points.

The Griffins shot 40 free throws in the game, making 28 (70%).  Chestnut Hill also outrebounded the Redhawks 44-40.  Roberts shot 48.5% from the field (32-66) while the Griffins could make just 34.4% (21-61) of their shots. 

The men's basketball team returns to action on November 16, 2024, with a road game at Queen's College.  Tipoff is at 3:00 p.m.
