The Chestnut Hill College Women's Volleyball team pulled out another thrilling five set win Saturday afternoon, set a single season record for wins and clinched a playoff spot, defeating host Dominican University 3-2 at the Hennesy Center in Orangeburg, New York.
The Griffins improve to 15-8 overall and 9-5 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matches. Their 15th win is the most wins by a Griffin program in a single season, beating last year's total of 14. The victory also clinches a spot in the upcoming CACC Championship Tournament although the team's seeding is yet to be determined. The Chargers fall to 10-10 overall and 7-6 in league play.

The Griffins jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a 25-17 win in the first set but struggled in the next two losing 25-12 and 25-11. Chestnut Hill then tied the match at 2-2, pulling out a 26-24 win in the fourth set before cruising to a 15-9 win in the deciding set to take the match.
Erika Dubosky led the way with 13 kills and 17 digs for her sixth straight double and 13th overall this season. Cha'kya Johnson added nine kills while Angela April chipped in eight.
Mia Caporellie led the team with 36 assists and recorded her 12th double-double of the season. Caporellie also led the team with five aces and became the first player in program history to have 200 aces for their career, reaching the mark early in the fourth set and adding one more in the fifth to extend her all-time mark to 201.  Kate Hanley, Pamela Uceta and Dubosky added three aces each.
Alexandra Crespin added ten digs on the afternoon. Maya Hopson and Caporellie had two blocks apiece.
Chestnut Hill led wire-to-wire in the opening set, scoring the first three points (two on Caporellie aces0 and pulling ahead 14-4 and later 18-7. Chestnut Hill maintained the large margin the rest of the way, with Hopson recording the decisive kill for set point, 25-17.
A 6-1 run in the second set by the Chargers gave the hosts a 10-5 lead and the Griffins did not get any closer with DU opening up an 18-8 margin before settling in for the 25-12 win .
The Chargers led wire-to-wire in the third set as the Griffins offense struggled as Dominican took a 2-1 lead in the match with a 25-11 win.
The two teams battled early in the fourth set with the Chargers never leading by more than two and seeing seven ties before the Griffins took their first lead at 14-13 following a DU attack error. An ace from Hanley gave the Griffins a three-point lead 17-14 as the Griffins went on an 8-3 run capped by a Hanley kill to lead 22-17.  Dominican fought back with a 6-1 run to tie the game at 23-23. The two teams exchanged points before two straight errors from the Chargers gave the Griffins a 26-24 win in the set and tied the match at 2-2.
Johnson's two kills and Caporellie's fifth ace of the match gave the Griffins a 3-0 lead in the deciding set. Dominican came back to tie the score at 6-6. Hanley added two aces and Hopson two kills as part of a 5-0 burst to put CHC ahead 11-6. The Chargers pulled within four 13-9 before Johnson closed out the match with two kills to give the Griffins the win.
Kaitlyn Carr led the Chargers with 20 kills.
The women's volleyball team returns home for a non-conference match with Lincoln University on Monday, November 11, 2024. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
