The Chestnut Hill College Women's College team bowled their three highest Baker format matches of the season en route to their best Baker series of the 2023-24 campaign as the team opened competition at the Mount Shootout at Clearview Lanes in mount joy, Pennsylvania on Friday.
The Mount Shootout features four nationally ranked teams and two others receiving votes in the most recent National Tenpin Coaches Association poll among the 16 schools competing.
The Griffins sit in ninth place among the 16 schools after the first day of competition with a pinfall total of 4,695 while earning one win in the five matches. For the season Chestnut Hill is now 27-33.
Abigail Crumb led the team on Friday, recording 25 strikes in 44 frames bowled (56.8%) while recording an 86.3% fill rate.
Chestnut Hill opened the day with a match against #25 Niagara University, falling to the Purple Eagles 1092-943. Their 943 score betters their previous best Baker match of 938 set last week against Mercyhurst University at the Griffin Baker Classic. Â
Jess Hollabaugh recorded 11 strikes in 15 attempts while filling eight of ten frames.Â
Eryn Moore and
Chase Clifford also filled eight of ten frames.
Moore was a perfect 10-for-10 filling frames in the Griffins' next match, a 1013-913 loss to St. Francis university (receiving votes in NTCA poll). Clifford and
Kayleina McGonigal filled nine of ten frames.
The Griffins' third match was against another ranked team, #21 Fairleigh Dickinson University. CHC fell to FDU 978-925. Crumb and Moore filled nine of ten frames while McGonigal filled eight.
McGonigal filled all ten frames in the Griffins next match as the team bettered their 943 score from earlier in the day but was narrowly edged by Kutztown University 957-953. Crumb and Moore filled eight of ten frames.
Chestnut Hill had their highest Baker score of the season in their final match, defeating Coppin State University 960-860. Crumb recorded strikes on eight of ten attempts while filling all ten frames. McGonigal filled nine of ten and
Maddy Feldschneider filled eight.
The women's bowling team returns to action Saturday at the mount Shootout with five traditional format matches, including  contests with host and #13 Mount Saint Mary's and Mercyhurst University (receiving votes). The Griffins will also face New Jersey city university, Bryant University and fellow Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference rival Dominican University.  Â
