Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Hill Breaks Rebound Record while Pettit Scores Career-high as Griffins Clinch Playoff Berth with Win over Tigers

Neal Hill broke a 14-year old school rebounding record while IV Pettit scored a career high 28 points to lead the chestnut Hill college Men's Basketball team to an 86-73 win over Holy Family University and clinch a berth in the upcoming Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Basketball Championship Tournament.

The Griffins improve their record in CACC games to 7-8 and are 8-19 overall.  The Tigers fall to 8-17 overall and 4-11 in league play.

Prior to the game, the Griffins honored a pair of seniors who were playing in their final home game as Griffins.  Noah Charles is a two year starter for the Griffins and has scored over 500 points in his career while ranking 11th on the Griffins' all-time assist list (189).  Dylan Majors has appeared in 19 games this season, averaging close to eight minutes a game.

Hill grabbed 19 rebounds, giving him 274 rebounds on the season, eclipsing Dan Comas' single season mark of 271 rebounds set back in 2009-10.  His 215 defensive rebounds on the season are also a school record.  His 19 rebounds in the game tied his own single game record set earlier this season vs. Dominican.  Hill has reached double figures in rebounds in 13 of the last 15 games.

Pettit connected on eight of 13 shots from the field including a solid 5-for-9 effort from beyond the three-point arc en route to his career high 28 points.  The freshman guard was also one of five CHC players to record three assists on the afternoon.

Donald-James Imo and Kamal Lee came off the bench to score 11 and ten points respectively. Charles scored nine points while Majors had a career high of eight points.  Alejandro Redondo Cybak grabbed nine rebounds.

Holy Family jumped out to a 24-16 lead just nine minutes into the game when the Griffins offense suddenly came alive with Pettit scoring nine points in an 11-0 CHC run to give the Griffins a 27-24 lead.  Chestnut Hill steadily increased the lead to as many as ten 49-39 with 1:57 left before the Tigers added a basket in the final minute to trim the Griffins' lead to eight 49-41 at halftime.

The Tigers closed within six twice in the first four minutes of play.  Chestnut Hill started to pull away thereafter with a 12-4 run to take their biggest lead, 66-52 with 11:13 left.  Holy Family battled back with a 12-4 uprising to make it a two-possession game 77-71 with 4:03 left.    Back-to-back three-point baskets from Lee and Pettit however took the wind out of the Tigers sails as the Griffin went back up by double digits, 83-71.  The Chestnut Hill defense did not allow a field goal in the final four minutes, outscoring the Tigers 9-2 over the same stretch to complete the season sweep.

The Griffins shot 51.9% (28-54) for the game, including a 48.1% effort (13-27) from three-point range while the Tigers shot 48.1% (26-54) overall and 33.3% (9-27) from three point range.  Chestnut Hill dominated the rebounding game, grabbing 39 to HFU's 19.

The men's basketball team will close out their regular season with a game at Georgian Court University on March 2, 2024.  Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
