The Chestnut Hill College Baseball team closed out their four-game set at the northeast Challenge on Sunday, falling to Queens College (N.Y.) 10-7 at the Ripken Experience Baseball Complex in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
The Griffins dropped to 0-4 on the season while Queens improved to 3-0.
Dylan Broderick took the loss for Chestnut Hill, allowing six runs on two-plus innings pitched.
Justin Geiger had three hits and a pair of RBI while
Michael Pascoe and
Calvin McCall had two RBI apiece.
The Knights jumped out to a 6-0 lead after batting in the top half of the third inning before the Griffins got on the board in the bottom half of the third.
RJ Huth drew a two-out walk and came around to score on
Phoenix Bowman's long double to left center, making the score 6-1.
McCall and Geiger delivered back-to-back doubles to start the fourth inning, as the Griffins added another run. Three batters later, Geiger stole third and scored after a bad throw by the Knights' catcher to make the score 6-3.
Queens added two more runs in the fifth while Geiger added his second double of the game in the sixth and later scored on a sacrifice fly by
Andrew Sawarynski, cutting the Knights lead to four 8-4.
The Griffins sent eight players to the plate in the seventh inning, scoring three times to pull within a run 8-7. Pascoe delivered the first run with a tow out double , scoring
Dan Ciotti who had singled and stole second.. Chestnut Hill's next run came courtesy of a balk by the Knights pitcher. Geiger drove in the third run of the inning with a single, scoring Pascoe from third.
Queens added two insurance runs in the top of the ninth. The Griffins got a two out single from McCall in their final at-bat before QC relief pitcher Joshuel Rodriquez recorded the final out to end the game.
The baseball team will return to action on Friday, March 1, 2024 when they take on West Virginia Wesleyan in Wilson, North Carolina. First pitch is 11:00 a.m.
