Molly Killion scored five goals and
Virginia Perry made 21 saves in her collegiate debut in goal as the Chestnut Hill College Women's Lacrosse team dropped their season opener 19-7 to Saint Thomas Aquinas College Wednesday afternoon at Victory Field in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania.
The Griffins start the season 0-1 as the Spartans improve to 1-2.
Killion's five goals were a career high for the senior player.Â
Lauren Sullivan and
Nicole George also scored for the Griffins, their first collegiate goal respectively.
Perry's 21 saves are the most by a first year player since Rosie Gavin had 25 in a game in 2006. Killion led the team with seven ground balls.
The Spartans scored three times in the first four minutes of the game and were ahead 5-0 as the first quarter was coming to an end.Â
Elizabeth Deal won the draw control for the Griffins and eventually got the ball to Killion who drove in from the right side  and put the ball past STAC goalkeeper Lilah Magenheimer to cut the lead to 5-1.
Deal won the opening draw of the second quarter with Killion get her second straight goal 21 seconds later to cut the lead to 5-2. The Spartans followed with two straight goals before Sullivan was awarded a free-position shot while a man-down and fired the ball into the net to make the score 7-3.
Killion has her own free position goal two minutes later and added her fourth goal of the game just 11 seconds later to cut the lead to 8-5. George took a pass from
Allyson Smith with 1:35 left for her first collegiate goal, pulling the Griffins within two 8-6.Â
STAC's Katelyn Cerrato made the score 9-6 as the teams headed into halftime.
The Spartans scored three unanswered goals in the third quarter to open a 12-6 lead and dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring CHC 7-1. Killion scored her fifth goal of the game while the Griffins were two-men down at the 13:28 mark to make the score 12-7. STAC scored seven straight times in the final 11:45 to secure the 19-7 win.

The women's lacrosse team returns to action on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, with a home contest against University of the District of Columbia. First draw is set for 1:00 p.m.
