George Scores Seven as Griffins Earn First Win of Season

Nicole George scored seven goals as the Chestnut Hill college women's Lacrosse team earned their first win of the season defeating the University of the District of Columbia 17-7 Tuesday afternoon at victory field in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania.

The Griffins improve to 1-1 while the Firebirds fall to 0-5.

George was one of four Griffin players to score multiple goals, also adding an assist to her seven goal tally to finish the game with eight points.  Six of her seven goals were man-up tallies, breaking the school record for man-up goals in a game, which was set by Spencer Fitzgerald by in 2019.  Molly Killion and Riley Regan had three goals apiece with Regan adding two assists and Killion one.  Lauren Sullivan also had two goals and an assist on the afternoon.  Shaina Klos and DeAnna Otero both scored their first collegiate goals in the contest, rounding out the scoring.

Sullivan won six draw controls and had four caused turnovers to lead the Griffins.  Killion led the team with eight ground balls while Regan and Sullivan had six and five respectively.  Virginia Perry earned her first collegiate win in goal for the Griffins, recording six saves.

The Griffins jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.  The Firebirds scored a late first quarter goal and added another in the early part of the second quarter cutting CHC's lead to 4-2 before George scored twice in a span of 80 seconds to put the Griffins back up by four 6-2 as the team's headed to halftime.

Killion and George scored twice in the third quarter as the Griffins expanded their lead to 13-5.  Klos scored her first collegiate goal on a free position shot with just two seconds left in the quarter.

The Firebirds scored the first two goals in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 13-7.  The Griffins, however, tallied four unanswered goals with George notching her sixth and seventh goals of the game.  Otero had her first collegiate goal with 2:20 left, taking a pass from Elizabeth Deal to make the score 16-7.  Regan completed her hat trick with her third goal of the day with just 23 seconds left, with deal getting the assist (her third of the game).

The women's lacrosse team is back in action on Friday, March 8, 2024, when they host Lake Erie college at victory Field.  First draw is at 1 p.m.
