The Chestnut Hill College Men's Lacrosse team concluded their set of road games to open the season with a 12-3 loss to regional powerhouse Pace University Saturday afternoon at Northwell Stadium.
The Griffins fall to 0-3 on the season while Pace improves to 4-0.
Three different players scored for the Griffins who tallied one goal in the first quarter and two more in the third.Â
Chase Snyder got CHC on the board in the first quarter while
Jake Ballerini and
Noah Hammon added scores in the third.
Goalkeeper
Julius Sorino led the team with five ground balls while also making 14 saves in net.Â
Kyle Gartenmayer and
Daniel Grubb led the team with four caused turnovers apiece.
The Setters jumped out to a 4-0 lead midway through the first quarter when Snyder put the Griffins on the scoreboard at the 6:58 mark following a won faceoff by CHC's
Brandon Bergheier 11 seconds earlier.
Pace added one more goal in the first and two more in the second to take a 7-1 lead at halftime.
Ryan Kemp's third goal of the game gave Pace an 8-1 lead just 15 seconds into the third quarter. Hammon and Ballerini then scored Chestnut Hill's final two goals. Hammon took a pass from
Cade Johnson following a Pace turnover and shot it past Pace goalkeeper Jack Kern.Â
The Griffins took control following a faceoff violation and less than a minute after Hammon's goal, Ballerini tallied his third goal of the season and cut Pace's lead to 8-3.Â
The Setters closed out the game with four straight goals to provide the nine goal victory margin (12-3).
The men's lacrosse team returns to action for their home opener Wednesday night, hosting Molloy University at Victory field in Lafayette Hill. First faceoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
