Noah Hammon scored a career high seven goals as the Chestnut Hill College Men's Lacrosse team won their first game of the season, defeating Molloy University 11-7 Wednesday night at Victory Field in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania.
The Griffins improve to 1-3 while Molloy drops to 3-4.
Hammon scored at least one goal in each period and added an assist in the second quarter to finish the game with eight total points.Â
Will Duddy added two goals while
Sam Slater had a goal and four assists while
Tommy Austin rounded out the Griffin goal scorers.Â
Jake Ballerini had three assists on the night.
Fifteen different players recorded a ground ball for the Griffins with Hammon and
Daniel Myers leading the way with three. Hammon also had two caused turnovers.
The two teams exchanged goals in the opening period with Hammon putting the Griffins on the board first, scoring on a pass from Slater at the 9:13 mark. Five minutes later the Lions evened the score at 1-1.
Three straight goals from the Griffins broke the tie and gave Chestnut Hill a 4-1 lead. Hammon scored twice, the first off a Ballerini pass at the 12:49 mark and the second at the 10:58 mark on a pass from
Cade Johnson. Slater than scored at the 8:36 mark.
The Lions responded with three straight goals of their own to tie the game at 4-4. Austin broke the tie with a score at the 5:09 mark with Slater earning his second assist of the game.  Molloy tied the game again at 5-5 before Duddy converted a shot with 1:24 left to put the Griffins ahead 6-5 at the half.
Duddy added an unassisted goal just 78 seconds into the third period, increasing the Griffins' lead to 7-5. Hammon later scored twice more in the quarter to increase his goal total for the game to five as the Griffins took a 9-6 lead into the final quarter.
Hammon scored his sixth goal 66 seconds into the fourth quarter giving the Griffins' a four goal lead and added his seventh goal of the game with 4:31 left to round out the scoring.
The men's lacrosse team returns to action on Saturday, March 16, 2024, when they begin conference play by hosting Dominican University at Victory field. First faceoff is set for noon.
