Lions Sweep Griffins with a Pair of One-Run Victories

The Chestnut Hill College Baseball team got swept by Lincoln University in a pair of one run games Sunday afternoon, 4-3 and 6-5 at Hostelley field in north Wales, Pennsylvania.

The Griffins fall to 6-11 overall while the Lions improve to 6-10.

Aiden Myers had two hits and two RBI for the Griffins in the opener while Michael Pascoe pitched a complete game in his first collegiate start, striking out nine and walking just one but took a hard-luck loss in the process.

Pascoe hit his first collegiate home run in game two as the Griffins managed just three hits in the 6-5 loss.  RJ Huth had a pair of hits and an RBI and stole three bases.  Marlon Rose (1-2) took the loss in relief.

Lincoln opened the scoring in game one with a triple and a double in their first at-bat.  The Griffins tied the score in the second when Daniel Ciotti hit an RBI single to right field scoring Phoenix Bowman, who reached on a walk to start the inning.

Home runs by the Lions in the top of the third and again in the top of the seventh gave the Lions in 4-1 lead as the Griffins headed into their final at-bat.  Chestnut Hill loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh and with two out, Myers delivered a double to centerfield scoring two runs to cut the lead to 4-3 and put the tying run just 90 feet away on third base, before the Lions shut the offense down with a strikeout to end the game.

The Lions again scored in the first inning off an infield hit, but the Griffins bounced back right away with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, courtesy of Pascoe's two-run home run to take a 2-1 lead.

An error by the Griffins led to another Lincoln run scoring in the second to tie the game at 2-2 before Huth singled in John Crane with the go-ahead run at the time and gave CHC a 3-2 lead.

A two-run home run by the Lions in the fifth gave the visitors a 4-3 lead with the Griffins again tying the game in sixth, 4-4 on Andrew Sawarynski's sacrifice fly.   Lincoln added two more in the seventh with the sixth run scoring on an errant throw.

Again, the game came down the Griffins' final at-bat.  Huth delivered a one-out double and Myers followed with a walk.  The two baserunners then executed a double steal to put them both in scoring position when a wild pitch allowed Huth to score and Myers went to third.  Trailing by one, the Griffins again had the tying run just 90 feet away in their final at-bat when Lincoln's pitcher again recorded a strikeout to end the game.

The baseball team will open conference play on Wednesday, March 23, 2024 with a home game against Holy Family university at Hostelley field.  First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
