Ten different players scored for the Chestnut hill College Men's Lacrosse team as they cruised to their third straight victory, defeating the University of the District of Columbia, 19-3 Tuesday night at Victory Field in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania.
The Griffins improve to 3-3 with the win while UDC falls to 1-5.
Freshman
Jake Ballerini led the way with four goals in the game. He also added an assist for five total points.Â
Noah Hammon finished the game with six points with three goals and three assists.Â
Jayden Basalatan recorded his first collegiate hat-trick with three goals. Â
Nate Matthews also made his presence known on the offensive end with two goals and three assists for five total points while
Tommy Austin recorded four points with one goal and three assists.
Sam Slater rounded out CHC's multiple goal scorers with two scores on the night.
Hammon and
Nick Suscovich led the team with five ground balls apiece while
Chase Snyder recorded four caused turnovers.
The Griffins jumped on the scoreboard first with three goals by three different players over a two-minute stretch midway through the first period. Hammon tallied the first score at the 8:18 mark taking a pass from
Austin Derx and firing it past UDC goalkeeper Najee Wilson. He assisted on Basalatan's first goal a minute later. Slater made the score 3-0 at the 6:15 mark, taking a pass from
Will Duddy for the score.
UDC got on the board just 90 seconds into the second quarter to cut the lead to 3-1. The Griffins scored five more times in the second quarter with Derx, Ballerini, Matthews,
Cade Johnson and Hammon recording a goal. Hammon's goal came with five seconds left after he took a pass from
Blaise McCabe to fire into the net, giving the Griffins an 8-1 halftime lead.
The Firebirds opened the scoring in the third quarter with a goal by Julian Schemm. Chestnut Hill then tallied eight straight goals, five in the third quarter and three in the fourth to take a 16-2 lead.  Matthew's goal in the third and Basalatan's goal to open the fourth quarter were both man-up scores.
Ballerini scored three times in the fourth quarter, two in the final four minutes to complete his four goal night. Suscovich won the faceoff following Ballerini's final goal and took it right down and scored his first collegiate goal with 1:36 left in the game to round out the scoring.
The men's lacrosse team returns to action on Saturday March 23, 2024 with a road contest at Felician University. First faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
