Noah Hammon continued his goal scoring streak, tallying four goals as the Chestnut Hill College Men's Lacrosse team defeated Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference rival Georgian Court University, 9-7, Wednesday night at victory Field in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania.
The Griffins improve to 4-3 overall and 2-0 in league play with the win, their fourth straight. The Lions fall to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in league play. Chestnut Hill has now won five of their last six matches against the Lions and eight out of 12 in the overall series.
 Hammon scored four times, extending his streak of games with three or more goals to four and streak of at least one goal to 16, dating back to March of last season.Â
Nate Matthews tallied two second half goals while
Jake Ballerini,
Cade Johnson and
Sam Slater had one goal apiece. Johnson also added three assists to finish with four points on the night.
Faceoff specialist
Brandon Bergheier led the team with five ground balls while
Evan Farlow added four.Â
Chase Snyder, Daniel Grubb and Johnson had three apiece. Grubb led the team with three caused turnovers while Snyder contributed two.
Julius Sorino was stellar in the net for the Griffins, recording 14 saves, eight in the second half alone as the Lions came back from a five-goal deficit to pull within one late in the game.
Slater and Hammon scored just 37 seconds apart in the first quarter, giving Chestnut Hill a quick 2-0 lead.  As the quarter was winding down, Hammon took a passe from Jhonson and put it past GCU goalkeeper Vince Burkhart with five seconds left in the quarter for a 3-0 Griffin lead.
Ballerini's man-up goal at the 8:47 mark on the second quarter gave the Griffins a 5-1 lead. The Lions scored two straight goals to cut the lead to 5-3, before Hammon tallied his third and fourth goals of the night in the final five minutes, giving CHC a 7-3 lead at halftime.
Matthews opened the scored just 62 seconds into the third quarter, taking a pass from Slater right in front of the net for the first of his two second half goals and an 8-3 Griffins lead. The Lions scored twice in the third quarter and had the first two goals in the fourth quarter, pulling within one with 5:15 remaining in the game.
Georgian Court had two opportunities in the next three minutes but turned the ball over while on offense. After
Daniel Myers picked up the ground ball following the second GCU turnover, the Griffins drove down the field and Slater eventually found Matthews for his second goal of the half and an all-important insurance goal, giving Chestnut Hill a two-goal lead, 9-7 with just 2:16 left.
 The Lions won the faceoff but turned the ball over again but quickly got it back. Another GCU turnover with less than a minute to go enabled the Griffins to clear the ball into their offensive end and run out the clock.
The men's lacrosse team returns to action on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, with a game at Wilmington University. The game is set to start at 12:00 p.m.
