Cole Stanchina broke the school record for 10,000 meters as the Chestnut Hill College Men's Track and field team opened the outdoor portion of their 2024 season at the Danny Curran Invitational last weekend at Widener University in Chester Pennsylvania.
Stanchina shaved 41 seconds off the former mark of 32:10.63 set back in 2019 by Ziggy Fisher by completing the race in 31:29.64 and placing sixth overall.  His time also placed him st the top of the NCAA East Region Performance list for the 10,000-meter distance.
In addition to Stanchina's sixth place finish in the 10,000 meter run, the Griffins recorded three additional top 20 finishes in the meet. Â
Emanuel Preston turned in two solid races at 100 and 200 distances, placing 12
th and 17
th respectively.Â
In the 100-meter dash, Preston finished with a time of 11.09 seconds while in the 200 meter event his time was 22.59 seconds. Both times were the second fastest ever by a Griffins runner at the respective distance. In addition, both races were run into a head wind.
The Griffins' final top 20 placing came in the shot put where
Jason Chedester finished 17
th with a top throw of 10.79 meters (35'5").
Three different runners made their Griffins' outdoor debut at the meet;
Bryce Hunter (100, 200 meters);
Ryan O'Hara (800 meters) and
Braden Berkey (5,000 meters). In addition, seniors
Tyheem Bailey (100 meters) and
Jason Fisher (1,500 meters) began their final season of competition as a Griffin.Â
Elijah Williams (200 meters) and
Donald Bonham (100, 200 meters) also competed on Saturday.
The men's track and field team returns to action on Friday April 5 with the start of the Ursinus College Track and field Festival in Collegeville, Pennsylvania. Competition at Ursinus will continue through Saturday, April 6, 2024.
