Baseball Falls to Goldey-Beacom

The Chestnut Hill College Baseball team opened their three game series with Goldey-Beacom College Tuesday night with a 7-1 loss to the Lightning at Hostelley Field in North Wales, Pennsylvania.

The griffins fall to 12-25 overall and 6-12 in Central Atlantic collegiate conference games.  The Lightning improve 26-13 overall and 10-5 in league play.

Six different Griffins recorded hits on the night with Phoenix Bowman leading the way with three.  Justin Geiger added two hits and scored the Griffins' only run.

Ben Bradt took the loss for the Griffins, allowing six runs (four earned) on six hits over four innings of work.

The lightning scored twice in the first and added two more on Adam McEvoy's two-run home run.  Two more Lightning runs scored in the fourth inning, increasing the visitors' lead to 6-0.

Goldey-Beacom scored their final run in the sixth inning and the Griffins countered in the bottom half of the sixth with their lone run of the game.

Back to back singles from Geiger and Bowman put two runners on with one out in the bottom half of the sixth.  Geiger advanced to third on a long fly ball out before Christian Peluso walked to load the bases.  With Calvin McCall now hitting, McEvoy the Lightning catcher, made a move to attempt to pick off Peluso at first which allowed Geiger to successfully steal home for the Griffin only run.

Chestnut Hill managed just one hit in the final three innings, a single from Bowman in the eighth inning. The Griffins did put two batters on via walks in the bottom of the ninth but neither runners would score.

The baseball team returns to action on Saturday, April 20, 2024, for the final two games of their three-game series against Goldey-Beacom College.  First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m. in Wilmington, Delaware.
