Griffins Cruise to Third Straight Win, defeating Felician.

Ten different players scored as the Chestnut Hill College Men's Lacrosse team clinched a spot in the upcoming Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship Tournament with a 14-5 win over Felician University at Tryon Field in Rutherford, New Jersey.

The Griffins improve to 7-4 overall and 5-1 in CACC games.  Felician falls to 4-8 overall and 1-5 in league play.

Cade Johnson led the Griffins with three goals.  Will Duddy and Tommy Austin had two goals apiece.   Sam Slater had six assists to go along with a goal to finish with seven points.  

Brandon Berghaier and Evan Farlow led the team with five ground balls apiece while Chase Snyder added four. R.J. Rybicki had three caused turnovers.  Kyle Gartenmayer, Snyder and Farlow added two apiece.

Julius Sorino had five saves while playing the first three quarters to earn the win.

The Griffins scored early and jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first quarter.  Duddy tallied two goals in the quarter with Austin and Cooper Jackson scoring the other two.  Slater assisted with three of the four goals.

Three second quarter goals increased the Griffins lead to 7-1 by halftime.  Austin scored his second goal of the game at the 11:31 mark to make the score 5-1.  Johnson added his first goal of the game with just under two minutes left and Blaise McCabe scored with just seven seconds left with slater getting his fourth assist.

Slater, Jake Homan and Nate Mathews scored in the third quarter as the Griffins expanded their lead to 10-1.  The Golden Falcons added a goal before the quarter ended to cut the Griffins' lead to 10-2 after three quarters.

Chestnut Hill added four unanswered goals over the first eight-plus minutes of the final quarter with Johnson tallying his final two goals of the game. Johnson fed Snyder for the first goal of the quarter at the 12:24 mark.  Noah Hammon scored a goal for the 20th straight game at the 7:15 mark. And Johnson completed his hat trick 35 seconds later with Slater getting his sixth assist on the play.

Felician scored the final three goals of the game to make the final score 14-5.

For the game, the Griffins outshot the Golden Falcons 49-28 (34-11 on goal).  Chestnut Hill was also a perfect 20-20 on clears and held a 37-33 advantage for ground balls. 

The men's lacrosse team returns to action on Saturday, April 20, 2024, when they travel to northeast Philadelphia to take on Holy Family University. First faceoff is set for 12:00 noon.
