Myers Hits a Grand Slam Home Run as Griffins Split with Cougars

Aiden Myers hit a grand slam home run and Michael Pascoe hit a two run double in the seventh inning to give the Chestnut Hill college baseball team an 11-10 win over Caldwell University in game one of their doubleheader Sunday afternoon in Caldwell, New Jersey.

The Griffins seventh inning rally in game two fell one run short as the Cougars held on for an 8-7 win for the split.

Chestnut Hill is now 9-22 overall and 3-9 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games.  Caldwell is 7-13 overall and 6-6 in league play.

Myers' second inning grand slam was hit only hit of the game as he finished with four RBI.  Pascoe had a triple to go along with his double and drove in three runs.  RJ Huth and Phoenix Bowman had two hits apiece.

Marlon Rose earned the win, pitching 4.1 innings of relief for Pascoe who went the first 2.1 innings and remained in the game as the designated hitter.  Jake Schweiker came in and faced just one batter in the bottom of the seventh, striking him out for the save.

Justin Geiger doubled in the first inning to score Myers and Pascoe followed with his RBI triple and later scored on a Calvin McCall sacrifice fly to give CHC a 3-0 lead.

The Cougars got two back in the bottom of the first before Myers' second inning blast to left field brought home Huth (single), Shawn Levan (hit by pitch) and Alex Fascia (single) and gave the Griffins a 7-2 lead.

Caldwell scored once in the bottom of the second and four runs in the third to tie the game at 7-7.  The Cougars added three more in the fifth to take a 10-7 lead.

A double steal executed by McCall and Geiger brought home the eighth Griffin run before Bowman made it a one run game with a single to score McCall.

Singles by Andrew Sawarynski and Huth and a walk to Geiger loaded the bases for Pascoe who delivered a two-out double to right center field scoring Dan Ciotti, who was running for Sawarynski and Huth with the go-ahead run.

Rose gave up a walk in the Cougars final at-bat, who advanced to second with two out before Schweiker came in to close out the game.

In game two the Cougars jumped out to a 5-0 lead before the Griffins got on the board in the fifth inning.  John Crane doubled to leadoff the inning. Sawarynski hit a two-out single to center field as Crane scored, making the score 5-1.

Caldwell added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth, chasing Griffin starter Benjamin Bradt and increasing the lead to 8-1.

Crane hit his second double of the game in the seventh scoring Fascia to get the Griffin rally started. A fielder's choice and a sacrifice fly brought home two more runs and pull the Griffins within four 8-4.  Geiger reached on an error to bring home another run.  Fascia, batting for the second time in the inning, hit a ball to the shortstop which was misplayed for an error, allowing Pascoe and Myers to score.  Geiger also tried to score from first but was called out at the plate, ending the rally and the game and leaving the Griffins one run short, 8-7.

Bradt took the loss for Chestnut Hilll
