In their final weekend home contest of the 2024 season, the Chestnut Hill College Women's Lacrosse team scored six goals but a strong second quarter by the University of Bridgeport led to the Griffins falling 18-6 Saturday afternoon at Victory Field.
Chestnut Hill falls to 1-8 overall and 0-5 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games.
Molly Killion and
Allyson Smith had two goals apiece in the first half while
Riley Regan and
Lauren Sullivan each scored a goal in the second half. Killion and Sullivan led the team with six and five shots respectively.
Regan led the Griffins with five ground balls with Killion chipping in four.Â
Anna Sanverdine and
Virginia Perry adding three apiece. Killion had three caused turnovers and won three draw controls to lead the team.
Perry had 12 saves in goal for the Griffins.
Smith put the Griffins on the board first with an unassisted goal at the 9:19 mark of the first quarter. Two minutes later Killion made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal of her own.
The Purple Knights scored two goals off free position shots before the quarter ended to tie the game at 2-2 and added two more goals in the first two minutes of the second quarter to take a 4-2 lead.
Killion added her second goal at the 12:14 mark of the second quarter to close the gap to 4-3 before the Purple Knights tallied seven unanswered scores, taking advantage of the Griffins being forced to play a man down after a player received her second yellow card of the game and could not return to the field.
Smith broke the string with her second goal of the game with 2:12 left. Bridgeport scored once more before the quarter ended and held a 12-4 lead at halftime.
Regan and Sullivan scored 40 seconds apart in the opening minutes of the third quarter to cut the lead to 12-6. Bridgeport then scored the final six goals of the game,
The women's lacrosse team returns to action on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, when they travel to play Felician university in Rutherford New Jersey. First draw is set for 7:00 p.m.
