The Chestnut Hill College Women's Tennis team had their two game winning streak broken as Wilmington University handed the Griffins a 4-3 loss at the Delcastle Tennis Center in Wilmington, Delaware on Thursday.
The Griffins fall to 2-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate conference games and 2-2 overall. The Wildcats improve to 2-0 overall and in league play.
Highlighting the afternoon was a pair of wins apiece by senior Alison Isaac and sophomore Lilian Bandel. Isaac earned a doubles win with her partner Elena Arenas Guisasola at #2 doubles while Bandel teamed with Romi Meirovich at #1 doubles to earn a win and help clinch the doubles points for Chestnut Hill. Both players also won their singles matches.
Meirovich and Bandel scored a 6-3 win over sienna McDonald and Molly Carlberg at #1 doubles while Isaac and arenas Guisasola earned a 6-4 win at #2 doubles over Gloria Barcaro and Kushi Khandoji to give the Griffins an early 1-0 lead in the match.
Wilmington in turn, won four straight singles matches to take the match with a 4-1 lead. Isaac went on to defeat MacDonald, 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 at #1 singles to remain undefeated in conference singles matches. Vandel closed out the match with a 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (11-9) win over Lyza Sylka at #3 singles to make the final score 4-3.
The women's tennis team returns to action on Saturday, September 21 with a match at home against Post University at the CHC Tennis Courts. First serve is set for 12:00 p.m.
